What does Edmunds.com Say?

“A class leader when it comes to ride and handling, the F-150 is dragged down by its excessive weight and lack of key safety features.”

The Pros and Cons from Edmunds.com

Pros
Exceptional ride and handling characteristics, attractive and functional interior designs, multiple cab and bed configurations, the most payload and towing capacity in the half-ton class.

Cons
Feels sluggish even with larger V8, no available side airbags, not much interior storage space.

Safety

Frontal impact testing by the NHTSA resulted in a perfect five-star rating. In offset-frontal crash testing conducted by the IIHS, the F-150 earned a rating of "Good," the highest available, and a "Best Pick" designation.

All F-150s include Ford's personal safety system that combines multistage airbags, seatbelt pre-tensioners and seat position sensors to achieve the best possible protection based on crash severity. Antilock brakes are also standard across the board, and adjustable pedals are available as an option. Unlike some of its competitors, the F-150 does not offer side airbags or electronic stability control.

Ford F-150

The F-150 is available in three body styles (regular cab, extended cab and crew cab), three bed lengths (five-and-a-half-foot, six-and-a-half-foot and eight-foot) and five different trim levels (XL, STX, XLT, FX4 and Lariat). Both regular and extended cab trucks come standard with reverse-opening rear doors for easier cab access, while the crew cab features forward-hinged full-size doors.

XL – Your standard work truck with a vinyl or cloth interior and minimal amenities.

STX – Adds body-colored bumpers, sportier wheels and a few additional features, such as a stepside bed and an upgraded sound system.

XLT – Offers the widest array of available options, as well as an upgraded interior.

FX4 – Geared toward off-road enthusiasts as it includes underbody skid plates, retuned springs and heavy-duty shocks, as well as 18-inch wheels and an upgraded interior.

Lariat – This top-of-the-line trim if for buyers looking for an upscale look and feel with interior features like brushed aluminum and wood highlights, optional leather heated seats, satellite steering wheel controls, white-faced gauges and automatic climate control. Exterior details include two-tone paint, chrome bumpers and 18-inch aluminum wheels.
