Texas is a southwestern state in the United States. Austin is the state capital, but Houston is the largest city. In 1845, Texas became the first internationally recognized independent state directly admitted to the United States as a state of the union. To this day, it remains the only state to do so. Texas is a rapidly growing state thanks to the availability of jobs, the low cost of living, the lack of a state income tax, low taxation of business, limited government (the state legislature of Texas meets only once every two years) and pleasant climate.
