Fussy interior controls, clumsy transmission shifter, CD changer is still in the trunk.

Safety

All XJs come standard with such safety features as antilock brakes, BrakeAssist, front and rear seatbelt pre-tensioners and front, side and head curtain airbags. Sensors monitor the front occupants' weight and position to the point that the airbags will deploy at a lesser rate or not at all if it is deemed unsafe for the occupant. The XJ-Series sedans have not been crash tested.

Jaguar XJ-Series

The 2005 Jaguar XJ-Series is a 4-door, 5-passenger luxury sedan, or luxury sports sedan. All Jaguar XJs are four-door sedans, but four distinct styles are available. Both the XJ8s and Vanden Plas come with Jaguar's 4.2-liter V8 engine which is good for 294 horsepower and 303 pound-feet of torque. The Super V8 has a supercharged V8 which puts out nearly 100 more hp -- an impressive rating of 390 hp. Both engines use a six-speed automatic transmission and a Jaguar traditional "J" gateshifter.

XJ8 – This base model is offered in a short wheel base, and comes with a long list of amenities that includes traction control, four-zone climate control, adjustable pedals, walnut-trimmed interior and a self-leveling suspension all for a starting price just under $62,000.

XJ8 L – Offers all the features of the XJ8 coupled with a longer wheel base.

Vanden Plas – Includes an even longer wheel base than the XJ8 L, and ups the plush factor with 16-way power seats, unique 18-inch wheels, an upgraded audio system, richer wood trim, thicker carpeting, heated seats, xenon headlights and a power rear sunshade.

Super V8 – This model offers all the luxury and room of the Vanden Plas, along with a supercharged V8 engine, more powerful brakes, a rear DVD entertainment system, DVD navigation, adaptive cruise control and unique 19-inch wheels.
